<div>Since 1975, he has created and published drawings, illustrations and woodcuts in international journals, books, magazines, several children’s books, and newspapers. He was staff artist for the New york City’s Village Voice in the 70’s and the San Francisco Chronicle in the 80’s. He freelanced for the OP-Ed page of the New York Times. He worked for El Comercio as graphics consultant in the 90’s in Lima, Peru. He received awards from Graphis, Communication Arts, Society of Illustrators and the Art Director’s Club. His work has been featured in Communications Arts Magazine, Print, Syracuse Scholar, Upper and Lower Case, and newspaper art reviews.<br />
He holds an M.F.A., in Art &amp; Design, an A.M., in Art Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign , an M.A., in Graphics from Hunter College C.U.N.Y, and a B.F.A. in Advertising Design from the School of Visual Arts. He represented Peru and the USA with his woodcuts in the Norsk Internasjonal Grafikk Biennale, Norway. The Jubilam X Internationale Grafik Triennale, Norway and The Xylon Graphische International Triennale, Switzerland. Recipient of the Frans Masareel Centrum artist in residence in Belgium, the Florida’s Cultural Consortium Fellowship and the University of Miami’s Orovitz Research Grant.<br />
He has taught since 1975 at the School of Visual Arts, Philadelphia University of the Arts, Syracuse University, California College of Arts and Crafts, University of California at Berkeley, Ringling School of Art and Design, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Poynter Institute for Media Studies and he is currently a tenured professor at the University of Miami.
